Fire Alarm Aspiration Sensing Technology (FAAST™)

FAAST™ (Fire Alarm Aspiration Sensing Technology) gives outstanding fire protection for enterprise critical data centre and IT facilities.

Key applications
Aspiration smoke detection systems have benefits in many applications. Most common applications can be split into two categories:

  • Where very high sensitivity fire detection is required to achieve very early warning.
  • As the only alternative for applications where traditional methods of fire detection may not be effective, for example in cold storage areas, lift shafts, false floors or ceilings, prisons and correctional facilities and heritage buildings.
The most important application sector for FAAST is the first category, where very high sensitivity smoke detection is required to provide the earliest warning of a fire. Such protection is required by the end users in ‘Strategic Operations’ where every minute of downtime costs € millions in lost revenue and profit. Typical examples are IT facilities, major telecoms facilities, industrial plant control rooms, banking sector computer rooms, ISP and enterprise hosting data centres, air traffic control centres and nuclear facilities.

FAAST key benefits
  • Earliest warning with highest sensitivity offering highest combinations of pipe length and number of holes
  • Elimination of false alarms
  • Earliest and most reliable warning of a fire up to several hours before combustion products are visible, offering more time to manage the data and system being protected
  • Full TCP/IP integration with the systems the device is protecting
  • Dedicated pipe layout planning software

EN54-20
Pipe Network Coverage and EN54-20 VdS testing confirm FAAST coverage up to 2,000m2 with 4 x 100m pipes. EN54-20 is a mandated standard under the Construction Products Directive (CPD), which introduces a new classification system for aspiration systems, defining Class A, B and C sensitivities.
FAAST meets Class A, B and C requirement

End user benefits
  • Device becomes another node on the system through Integrated Ethernet IP connectivity with LAN and WAN networks for status interrogation and seamless shutdown initiation.
  • Allows the IT manager to stay connected and in control via configurable e-mail Alarm/Fault/Isolate alerts to up to six e-mail addresses.
  • Designed for 100% up time with no false alarms, supporting six nines environments.
  • Class-leading sensitivity of 0.0015%obs/m provides up to several hours warning time, allowing remedial action to be taken before possible equipment outage by initiating a graceful shutdown of the relevant hardware and the migration of software to an alternative platform.
Channel benefits
  • Best in class coverage up to 2000m2 per FAAST device reduces equipment costs
  • Flexible installation options with a wide choice of pipe lengths and hole spacings minimises wastage
  • Easy installation, with well thought out cable access, reduces time and cost
  • Zero false alarm rate reduces emergency call-out costs
  • Acclimate self-adjustment dynamically characterises FAAST to the installed environment within 24 hours of installation
  • Sophisticated PipelQ design and monitoring software reduces system design time and cost
  • A fully integrated complete system, with no additional modules or accessories required
